Marine Mechanics currently has a very exciting opportunity to join the team as an IHM Executive. This is a challenging and rewarding role that will allow you to build specialist knowledge of Hazardous Materials onboard ships and the international regulations that govern them.

Marine Mechanics is a class-authorised IHM inspection and maintenance consultancy, supporting shipowners and managers in meeting their obligations under the Hong Kong Convention and the EU Ship Recycling Regulation. ROLE PURPOSE

This role covers the coordination and delivery of all stages required to prepare the Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) and to deliver and maintain a compliant IHM for our clients throughout the vessel’s life cycle.

You will undergo comprehensive training from our in-house HazMat experts, following which you will be competent to carry out all disciplines of IHM preparation and maintenance to the required standard.

This is a full-time, permanent position based at the Marine Mechanics (MMPL) office in Chennai.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Following training on all aspects of IHM, your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing vessel information and preparing IHM reports in accordance with applicable regulations and class requirements.
  • Liaising with suppliers to collect and verify Material Declarations (MD) and Supplier’s Declarations of Conformity (SDoC).
  • Reviewing all vessel Purchase Orders to identify and assess Hazardous Materials.
  • Maintaining and updating the IHM Part I database to keep each vessel’s inventory current and compliant.
  • Providing a professional and courteous service to clients, and responding promptly and accurately to any queries they may have.
  • Communicating effectively with clients, the Technical Support team and fellow team members to ensure timely delivery of work.
  • Ensuring all documentation and records are accurate, well organised and audit-ready.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical or Marine Engineering, or Naval Architecture.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexible approach to work with a can-do attitude and a genuine willingness to learn.
  • Strong work ethic, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a small team.
  • Keen attention to detail for accurate data handling, and familiarity with the MS Office Suite.
  • 0–3 years of experience; freshers are also encouraged to apply.
DESIRABLE
  • Working knowledge of the Hong Kong Convention (HKC) and/or the EU Ship Recycling Regulation (EU SRR).
  • Experience with any ERP system.
